AMIE qualification can be earned by passing Section A and Section B examination of the Institution of Engineers (India). If an applicant passes both sections of the examination, he or she becomes a Associate of the Institution of Engineers (AIE). This qualification is recognised by Ministry of HRD, Government of India as equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech. degree in the appropriate branch of Engineering of the recognised universities in India.

AMIE is also recognised by UK-NARIC as British Bachelor's Honours degree
and by FCSA Foreign credential service of America as equivalent to Bachelor's
degree in engineering. Defense Services, Central government organisation
like Railways, ISRO, DRDO, HAL, BHEL, BEML, NBCC, Bharat Electronics and
many public sector organisation's offer employment / increments / promotions
for those achieving this qualification.The AMIE is a worth while alternative option for such students who are
unable to pursue for an engineering degree course through a regular course
in an engineering college. It is a non-formal course and anyone who meets
the specified educational qualification and a keen desire to become a
graduate engineer can do this course. This course is suitable for employed
person, as they can study this course without being interfering with their
job, whether they are in India or abroad.
AMIE degree holder can write examinations like civil services, Indian engineering services, GATE, GRE, etc. The candidates after earning a certificate in Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (AMIE) can choose for higher studies leading to master’s degree in engineering or any other qualification.
